When setting the jib leads, bear away slowly while beating and watch the upper and lower leeward tell tales to see which one breaks (stalls) first. If the top stalls first, the lead needs to move aft for max power and proper twist. If the bottom stalls first, the lead needs to move forward. Using this technique allows the aerodynamics of the sail to determine the lead placement.
